LifeVantage Protandim Ever heard of it? Maybe but I doubt it. If not, you will. Especially if you are a fan of what’s his face.. let me think… baby face guy, has a sister that looks just like him, they sing. Honey, what is that guys name? You know, the spokesman for Protandim, the singer guy. Oh yeah Donnie Osmond. I am 30 so he is a little beyond my generation. Which by the way is my first gripe about Protandim, is that if they want to reach out to the Generation X crowd they need to do a little better then that cheese ball as a spokesman (I am sure he is a very nice man). Well if you are a fan of him, into natural healing, or multi level marketing it is likely that you will hear about Protandim. I run in a circle of people a little older then me so I usually hear about these things. Someone is usually trying to get me to try something or sell it. In the last couple years it has been Mona Vie, Primerica, Body by Vi and something else that I can’t remember.
About Me – I am a pessimist about almost everything! Well, maybe not about this…
I am a huge pessimist and skeptic. I suck at selling stuff because I am honest to a fault and I hate pressure. I basically tell people trying to sell me stuff to F off, because if they bug me and I do decide to buy something, I won’t buy it from them! I hate it when car salesmen tail me around the parking lot or when I am looking at jeans and the annoying sales lady keeps checking on me and asking me if I need something. Well, this time someone actually convinced me to take something and try to sell it. Protandim. After I tell you how it happened I will tell you what it is.
My husband and I started renting rooms in our house because it is just too big for the two of us. Our latest roommate has become our friend. This is surprising because we don’t make friends easy. We are not exactly people people, which is why I couldn’t sell something to save my life. My husband easily offends people because he is aggressive and abrasive and I am just uncomfortable in my own skin. What is sad though is that we seem harsh on the outside but we are the ones balling our eyes with empathy, compassion, sadness or happiness when we see someone being mistreated, or doing something self sacrificing for someone else. This is probably why Michael latched onto us and why we let him.
Michael is a sweet little bald guy who has the potential to drive everyone he meets crazy. He is a little deaf in one ear which makes him hard to understand because he mumbles. Not only does he mumble but he does it in a southern drawl with attitude. Probably because he is from Mississippi. Also because he is hard of hearing he doesn’t realize he is interrupting when others are talking. He also doesn’t always hear what you are saying so you have to repeat things over and over again while he says “Huh?” “Whuuut?” Anyway, even though we want to choke him sometimes he is a super nice guy with a heart of gold and has become really attached to my husband and I, he just kind of dug in like a tick. We have a soft spot for people that others have no patience for or have been tread upon in life. Hopefully he doesn’t read this and get offended. I mean it in a good way. He is an honest guy and we trust him and we don’t trust anyone.
Well Michael from Mississippi is a medical billing guy who works at a local doctors office. He is the guy who introduced us to Protandim. Everyday, I had to hear the spiel that he has memorized about what it is and how it works. This all started because he saw us in the kitchen taking a multi vitamin that he despises. Most of the time I couldn’t help but space out while he was talking because he was using all of this terminology like catalase and super oxide dismutase (Cellular enzymes that fight free radicals in your body). It took me many times of hearing this pitch to finally absorb the words antioxidant and green tea. Two things that I am familiar with. I am a girl. I care about having nice skin, aging well and my weight, so I drink green tea and try to get all the berries and other foods that contain antioxidants. So Michael’s spiel was like an annoying song on the radio that you hate but they play it so much that you eventually realize that you have it memorized. You find yourself walking around the house singing it to yourself. Damn it! I hate that. So we like Michael and we think he is a genuine guy. He liking us and having good intentions, gives us a bottle of Protandim to try. I figure it is herbs so if it doesn’t help it can’t hurt. We hear that it does all this good stuff like fight free radicals in your body and fight oxidative stress on a level far beyond any food you could eat. It is something to do with the way the herbs are combined, blah blah blah. He is giving it to us for free so lets see what happens.
Well initially, I feel like crap. I am not as healthy as I used to be. I don’t exercise as much. I am completely stressed out because I am 30 and in college. So stressed out that I am losing my hair and I drink now. So anyway, I feel like crap for about week. I’m breaking out, I have a headache and some muscle aches like I am going through detox. My husband has the same thing happen. We stick it out and keep taking it. I notice that I start sleeping better, I am waking up earlier, I have a little bit more energy and my mood and ability to focus is better. Depression runs in my family and my moods are all over the place which causes me to sleep a lot. My husband notices that his pancreas feels better. He has been having pain in his side and stomach for years because of pancreatitis. So we’re like maybe this stuff does do something.
Michael talks us into going to those ridiculous MLM meetings because he is a distributor of Protandim. I hate that kind of shit but whatever. So at the meetings they tell you about all the benefits of Protandim and why they take it and if you want to make money selling it or not. Surprisingly, the meetings are pretty low pressure. They spend more time telling you stories about themselves and their personal experiences with Protandim. They don’t have bottles of it sitting around for sale. They mostly just answer your questions and explain in detail the science behind it, how the company got started, etc. Although because I am such a cynical jerk, I still get annoyed because the guy speaking has to be a charismatic dork with that typical salesman sounding pitch. Also, I swear everywhere I go there are always a couple middle aged trampy lookin’ broads just throwing around their saggy tits and attitudes that cheapen the whole thing somehow. I guess there are groupies for everything.
Ultimately, it was one of the better experiences I have had. It was really geared more towards learning about the product itself. Everyone had a great story to tell about a product that is being marketed and can only be marketed as an anti aging product. However, at the three or four meetings I went to before we decided to invest in being a distributor, I have heard it has helped people with different types of inflammation, like arthritis and gum disease. The athletes of the group noticed faster healing times after injuries. I also heard good things about diabetes, cancer, ADD, etc., etc. I am not sure if it is the miracle supplement that they make it sound like. All I can tell you is that for $40 a month, which is cheaper then most prescriptions and without the side effects, you could feel better or someone you know could feel better. If you want to be distributor or refer people so your bottle gets paid for what’s so wrong with that? Besides, I need something to help me pay back my student loans because I can’t even find a minimum wage job right now. Also, I can’t tell you all the different things I waste $40 dollars a week on let alone a month.
My grandparents and my mother all died of cancer within 6 years of each other. Unfortunately, Protandim wasn’t around yet but it was when my father died and I didn’t know about it. My father died a couple years ago of heart and lung issues. If I would have known about this then, I would have been shoving it down his throat if there was a chance he would of had a better quality of life. I have come to learn that there are medical studies about the links between oxidative stress and disease. I have researched pubmed.gov., checked out the apparent scams etc, etc. If you are like me though, you will think I am just telling you this to validate it. Not true…I don’t believe in peer review studies because I believe most of the time they are faked just to sell more pharmaceuticals. This is the only reason I payed attention to these ones because this isn’t a pharmaceutical. Although I guess they could be fake too but I have listened to practicing medical doctors, acupuncturists, renowned sportsman and the average joe tell me how it has benefited them. If you are like me though, I guess all you have to rely on is yourself. At least it is herbal and you can be your own guinea pig like I did and see what happens. I guess I didn’t really tell you exactly what it is but I get bored with things easily.
So the basics are it is an herbal activator for your body’s own antioxidant system. It has been scientifically proven to lower oxidative stress in adults back to adolescent levels. It has green tea, tumeric, milk thistle and two other herbs that I can’t remember combined in a way that does these things. It is all natural and I have said enough, don’t take my word for it.
